Allen Bradley’s History:

Allen-Bradley, a subsidiary of Rockwell Automation, has a rich history dating back to 1903. The company has been a pioneer in digital automation, coining the term “PLC” with the launch of the 1774 PLC in 1970. Allen-Bradley introduced the concept of Data Highway, one of the first computer networks designed for digital control systems.

The 1774 PLC was one of the first PLCs ever built.

The company has continued to innovate with various product lines such as the SLC500, which was more compact and affordable than its predecessors. The SLC500 series introduced features like Run Mode and Online Programming, and the SLC 5/05 was the first to support Ethernet-based communication.

In recent years, Allen-Bradley has released the ControlLogix line of automation controllers, which are modular and rack-based, offering faster scan times and higher memory capacities than previous models. The latest model, the ControlLogix 5580, or L8x, is significantly faster and comes with memory options ranging from 3MB to 20MB.

The CompactLogix PLCs, introduced in 2008, cater to the market’s need for cost-efficient controllers. They come in modular and all-in-one variants, with the latest models rebranded as CompactLogix 5380 and 5370, featuring user memory from 0.6 MB to 10MB and dual Ethernet ports for high-speed connectivity.
